The Meaning Behind The Song: Fear & Fridays (Poem) by Zach Bryan

By Daniel Hoffman |
[Spoken]I’d say I’ve seen some beautiful days, I’ve walked countless coastlines, awoken on mountain tops, I have seen death and birth and kissed good lips
I don’t need a music machine telling me what a good story is, and matter of fact I’ve never asked nothing from nobody
I’ve taken my motorbike down the Pacific 101 and I have stood atop the Empire State Building with my father
I’ve ridden in fear, although, I was afraid every single time
I’ve learned that every waking moment is enough and еxcess never lеads to better things, it only piles and piles atop the things that are already abundantly in front of you like breathing and chasing and slow dancing and love making, fighting and laughing
I am unhinged, unworthy, and distasteful to mostly everyone I meet, however, I am loyal to a fault to anyone I find kindness in I do not and will not fear tomorrow because I feel as though today has been enough
And I got no hate in my heart for anything, anywhere, or anyone
And I think fear and Fridays got an awful lot in common, they’re overdone and glorified and always leave you wantin’
Yeah, I think fear and Fridays got an awful lot in common, they’re overdone and glorified and they always leave you wantin’

Sharing Personal Experiences

I recently came across the song “Fear & Fridays” by Zach Bryan, and it instantly struck a chord with me. As I listen to this song while working, I can’t help but reflect on the deeper meaning behind the lyrics and the emotions it evokes within me.

Zach Bryan’s spoken word delivery accompanied by the gentle strumming of an acoustic guitar sets the tone for introspection and contemplation. The poem encapsulates a profound sense of wanderlust, resilience, and appreciation for the present moment.

When Bryan says, “I’d say I’ve seen some beautiful days, I’ve walked countless coastlines, awoken on mountain tops,” it reminds me of my own adventures and the awe-inspiring places I’ve had the privilege to explore. This line speaks to the importance of embracing life’s wonders, whether they be grand or simple.

The line “I’ve ridden in fear, although, I was afraid every single time” resonates with me deeply. It acknowledges that fear exists in our lives, but it also highlights the courage it takes to overcome it. Bryan’s raw vulnerability in this statement is both relatable and inspiring.

Moreover, the contrast between excess and contentment is beautifully explored in the line, “excess never leads to better things, it only piles and piles atop the things that are already abundantly in front of you.” This reminder to find joy in the present rather than constantly seeking more aligns with my personal values and philosophy.

As the song progresses, Bryan expresses his loyalty to those who show him kindness and his refusal to fear tomorrow because today has been enough. This sentiment resonates profoundly, reminding me of the importance of gratitude and embracing the present moment.

Lastly, the comparison between fear and Fridays as being overdone, glorified, and always leaving you wanting invites contemplation on the human experience. It prompts us to question societal interpretations of fear and the illusions we create around certain days of the week.

In conclusion, “Fear & Fridays” by Zach Bryan is a thought-provoking poem set to music. Its exploration of fear, appreciation for the present, and the comparison of fear and Fridays invites listeners to reflect on their own experiences and perspectives. I am grateful to have stumbled upon this impactful piece of art that provides solace and inspiration in my own journey.
