I honestly think this song is a mix of the more popular opinions (death of a family member, and about faith). I think the beginning ("Dead star shine...") is talking abouto how bleak his life seems at that point, with his relative (presumably his granddad) dying.

During the chorus, I think he's talking about the death itself. "I can see you starting to break" could be the stage where it's like the beginning of the end for someone. He's pleading for someone to show him how to keep his granddad alive. Unfortunately, he passes away ("Forever and ever, the scars will remain...") and he's getting depressed. ("I'm falling apart, leave me here forever in the dark.")

In the second verse, he's trying to cope with the loss, but it's not going well. He's looking for comfort. ("Does anyone care...") I think the second part of the verse ("Take this life..") could be a turn to God.

"God help me, I've come undone..." is self-explanatory.

In the end of the song, it's a desperate plea to God. He's looking through the Bible for anything to feel better ("There's something buried in the Words")Presumably he has others mourning with him, and this just increases the deluge of emotions going on within him. ("Your tears are adding to the Flood.")
